I have 6 amazing children and a fantastic husband! My family began this homeschooling journey a few years after I read The Thomas Jefferson Education. I knew after reading the book that it was the right thing for my family, but I was scared to death to pull the kiddos out of their amazing Montensorri school which I loved. It took a few years of reading, researching, and praying before I had the faith that I could actually teach my kids at home. Thank goodness I finally did it, because its been the most exciting rewarding (and difficult) thing I've ever done. I can't imagine my family life without the influence and change that Leadership Education has brought to it.

My goal for HIP is that it provides all of us with the rescources, opportunities for inspiration, and framework to support us as we continue down this amazing yet scary HIP adventure! If you ever have any questions or need anything at all please feel free to email me!

My job description...

  • I'm the one responsible for getting the word out about HIP events and activities. My goal is to make it easy to find out what's going on and how to attend.
  • I also am the one who's out there doing my best to tell others about HIP...what we do, who we are, why they'd want to join.
  • Although I'm not the webmaster I'm his partner in crime. So I work with him to make our online presence clear, simple, easy, consistent, and accurate.
  • I'm also over all the HIP Events where we are trying to bring the entire HIP community together.
  • Its my job to keep in touch with the needs of our community by staying involved! Please let me know of your needs or things you can see need improvement with HIP.
  • I think my most important job is to keep the enthusiasm and excitement for TJed and HIP alive and active in our community. If you have an idea for a way to help with this I'd love for you to contact me anytime!!

I am married to the marvelous McKay Earl and we have four terrific children. I have been fortunate enough to grow up with and experience a wide variety of educational systems such as public, private and even a little home school. This type of exposure has allowed me to see the good and bad of each and allowed me to make a conscience decision for how I feel about education. Quite honestly, I wasn’t thrilled with any of them. Later when I attended George Wythe College and experienced first hand leadership education, I knew I had found what I was missing. This philosophy of education has been one of my biggest paradigm shifts – it has changed how I learn, teach, look at the world and even disciple my children.

Now I am serving on the HIP board and could not be more pleased with our focus and support! I am thrilled to get to know all of you and continue to help provide resources that help all of us families connect, contribute, and learn!

Keep in touch – Summer

Vice President/ Family Connections Facilitator

I believe we have an incredible strength right here in Arizona and I believe the more we connect and learn from each other this state will become empowered with families who are strong and willing to make the changes so needed! I want each of us to feel like we can homeschool! We can have strong families! And we can raise leaders!

  • So I am the one that puts together groups big or small that help us learn from each other! How fun is that! Like the HIP Nights or the HIP Market where we can come together to learn from each other and really be inspired…imagine being inspired more than once or twice a year. So each one of us get to help with this because we want to hear from people here who have done it.
  • I will help moms and dads who are new have better success their first year through the newbie kit offered on hiparizona.org I want families to have a simple list of “to do’s” and a place where they can go to have questions answered through a special program called HIP Mentors. These volunteers are people who believe in the system and have experienced the ride of homeschool.
  • I will be a volunteer for the HIP Mentor program plus be able to see more clearly, from being a volunteer what the needs of “newbie’s” are.
  • Really I hope to Facilitate programs where we can be inspired and connect with each other. So any ideas and help would be great!

I learned about Leadership Education eight years ago while reading A Thomas Jefferson Education. Along with gaining a better understanding of how to get a great education, I was thrilled to have permission to pursue my own education. Since then I have worked hard at balancing the work of educating myself and inspiring my children. Currently I am studying with my mentor, Benton Morely, along with the Bible and other texts that I feel inspired to study. I have a great husband and six children. I LOVE discovering and learning something new, inspiring others, being Inspired, and serving my family and friends.I love hiking, biking, and helping others continue their education so they can have an impact on the world. I also love finding ways to help my family be healthy. Our family has lived in Mesa for over 6 years, and we have loved learning and growing within this community of LE/TJEd families. I am passionate about helping others find the connections they need that will inspire them and their families along the Leadership Education path.

What I do as the HIP Scholar Facilitator (with lots of help from the Scholar Committee):

  • I'm the one responsible for getting the word out about any Scholar or Transition Phase events and activities that help members in or prepare to be in Scholar Phase. These are mostly smaller, non-HIP sponsored events and activities. My goal is to make it easy to find out about and choose the activities that will help youth or adults make the most of their education.
  • I will also help members to plan the above activities, if they so choose.
  • I will be the liaison for any organization outside of HIP that helps with any members’ Scholar Phase that wants a presence within HIP (advertising, etc.).
  • I am the one who's out there doing my best to help members prepare for or get a great Scholar Phase education, understand what it is and why it’s worth all effort.
  • I will help inspire and connect Scholar members by helping them use our online resources and by producing a quarterly publication of the best work our Scholars have to offer.
  • I will keep in touch with the Scholar needs of our community by regularly connecting with our Scholar members. In the future we hope to maintain a data base of scholar mentors.

I’ve been married to my husband for 12 years. We have four children. I am passionate about healthy eating, I like to challenge myself physically by training and competing in triathlons. I like to see if I can accomplish my physical goals. I read a Thomas Jefferson Education by Oliver DeMille four years ago. As soon as I read it I knew it was right for my family. I’ve been trying to figure it out since. It was such a blessing to meet other women who are following these same principles of Leadership education. My own education began as I met women in our homeschool group. Through these connections I’ve been introduced to the topics of freedom and the lives of the founding fathers. My own education has been has grown by leaps and bounds from the connections I’ve made.
